To enhance your experience in the Sossusvlei region we offer a host of activities at Agama Lodge, some of which are not available at other accommodation establishments like Sossusvlei Lodge, simply because of our location.
Having our own private game reserve as our backyard means that we can share with you a full desert experience. Some of the advantages this brings, such as breathtaking 360 degree scenery, don’t even require you to move from your sunlounger by the pool.
However, we’re pretty sure there’s another attraction or two we can tempt you with….
Visit the iconic sand dunes of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei.
Guided Scorpion Walk
Take a guided walk in the area with one of our lodge guides.
Scenic Nature Drives
Join a relaxing and scenic drive on the lodge’s private reserve.
Choose between sunrise and sunset …or BOTH!
Sunrise Scenic Nature Drive
Join us for an early morning drive to the top of a nearby dune called ‘Little Sossus’. Sit back and let the sun’s rays embrace you as you watch the sunrise and be enchanted by the awakening desert coming to life.
Immersed in the tranquility of this remarkable landscape we’ll coax you into the day with a warming cup of fresh coffee, tea or hot chocolate and a couple of traditional bush rusks.
There’s very few better ways to kick off a day in Africa.
Sossusvlei Excursion (Guided All Day Tour)
Quit wondering if your own 4 x 4 skills are going to make the grade, and relax in the safe hands of one of our qualified guides for a trip to the iconic Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei – hosts to the highest sand dunes in the Namib Desert and the picture perfect white clay pan and the fossilized Camel Thorn trees of Deadvlei.
This day trip includes a brief intro to the history and geology of the Sossusvlei dunes and Sesriem Canyon, the Tsauchab River, Elim dune, Big Mama, Big Daddy Dune and Dune 45.
Board our all-terrain safari vehicle at reception for a relaxing scenic drive on the Lodge’s private reserve in the Namib-Naukluft National Park where wildlife such as Springbok, Oryx, Blue Wildebeest, Kudu, Mountain Zebra, Giraffe, Ostrich and Warthog can be seen along with a variety of desert flora.
Experience the magic of nature’s grand finale as the sun gently descends, painting the sky with glorious hues of orange and pink.
With rolling hills as a backdrop, we’ll be looking out for the local diurnal inhabitants emerging from the shade of the rocks & trees to quench their thirst and find something for dinner before they retire for the night.
At the same time, our nocturnal friends will be rubbing the sleep from their eyes and making breakfast plans.
Upon arrival at the sundowner location, snacks and cooling drinks will be served as you relax and watch the spectacular setting of the sun.
Sitting amongst nature, the inner tranquility that a desert sunset imparts is really something special and unwinds you perfectly for a good night’s sleep.
Shortly after the sun sets, we’ll head back to the lodge for dinner.
Take a stroll along our signposted walking trail to the foothills of the Namib Naukluft Mountains on a loop around Agama’s private reserve.
The route takes you past a waterhole where you may catch a glimpse of the local inhabitants quenching their thirst.
There are also markers indicating other interesting features along the way.
No booking is necessary, but you are requested to notify reception before you leave and when you return.
Embark on a thrilling moonlit adventure with one of our experienced guides who will introduce you, not only to the mesmerising display of celestial objects overhead in the Namib sky… but also to the mysterious world of scorpions at your feet. You can also find out some ideas of why scorpions glow under ultraviolet light.
